Crazy Super Mario Wii MOD

March 10, 2008

Hey kids, listen up. That guy with the red hat and blue overalls in the fancy new Super Smash Bros. game you just brought home? His name is Mario. He’s a neat guy. This Wii mod here features the lovable plumber in his natural habitat, World 1-1. On the other side is a pipe, his favored form of travel, which doubles as a Wiimote charger. Pretty great. OK, that’s it for today’s lesson, stay safe out there!

Sony offering free PlayStation 3 with HDTV purchase

December 29, 2007

That’s right, babies. We’ve seen Sony play this hand in other parts of our great big world, and now the S-gang is bringing this sweet bacon on home… er, to the States. According to a promotion we’ve caught wind of, if you get yourself approved for the Sony Visa, then promptly purchase a Sony HDTV at the Sony Rewards store (out of a pool of models from the BRAVIA and SXRD lines), the good folks at Sony will throw a free PlayStation 3 your way. Of course, there’s a few hoops you have to jump through, the deal ends on December 31st, and obviously you’ll need a half-decent credit score, but if the suits approve your transaction, this is a pretty solid deal. Hit the read link for all the info — just make sure you read the fine print.

Robert Crumb’s Sex Obsessions

December 27, 2007

We can never get enough of Coffee Table books. Nothing beats an interesting oversized, well designed book. Unfortunately since Taschen is around, one could buy several a week, it’s hard to keep up.

The latest interesting release is “Sex Obsessions” by artist Robert Crumb. The artist is probably the worlds most famous underground cartoonist and has released impressive works over the years.

Now Crumb has selected his most intimately revealing comic strips and single page drawings to create a 258 page encyclopedic trip through his sexual psyche. All images were created between 1980 and 2006, and all strips are hand-colored for a lush vibrancy never seen in his comic books. In total the book features 14 complete stories, including My Troubles With Women, If I Were a King, A Bitchin’ Bod, and How To Have Fun With a Strong Girl, as well as 60 single page drawings.

This signed limited edition of 1,000 copies is a work of art in itself, with every part of the book—front and back covers, spine, and introductory pages—created for this project by Robert Crumb. Each book also comes with an art print selected by Mr. Crumb.

Taschen is increasing their prices on some of their limited edition releases, so if you got some spare money, you better get yourself a copy this week!

Panasonic steps up to the plate with massive HDTV

December 27, 2007

This years CES will no doubt play host to a number of exciting product unveilings, and Panasonic is getting ready to take advantage of the upcoming trade show to unleash a beast on an unsuspecting public. The company is about to unveil a brand new plasma-screen TV. Nothing crazy there, but get this…the new plasma will reportedly sport a 150″ screen. This move will thoroughly trounce the current contender for “biggest consumer  flat panel TV,” a title held by Sharp’s measly 108″ LCD screen. No word on pricing or specs, but expect this bad boy to command a healthy premium over your run-of-the-mill sub-100″ Plasma screen if it’s even available for purchase.

There will be only 1,000 pairs created, which will be numbered and sold exclusively in the Heyerdahl store starting this upcoming February. $6,400

Exchange & Outlook for iPhone?

December 15, 2007

It gets out that Pharrell has a gold iPhone, and on the same day it looks like Apple is testing the waters for Microsoft Exchange and Outlook for the iPhone. Is that a coincidence? Don’t make us laugh; we most certainly don’t think so. Apple has posted a job listing for a “motivated, highly-technical Exchange test/sync engineer with excellent problem solving and communication skills”, whose ”focus will be testing Exchange and Outlook functionality with Apple’s innovative new phone”. Maybe Apple heard the late night panting and moaning from executives who want a corporate-friendly iPhone? We’re not certain, but it doesn’t seem too unlikely since Apple has a penchant for wanting their very own thing, which is a problem for everyone who doesn’t just own iEverything. Corporate America falls into that category, and really doesn’t want to be without their trusty Microsoft applications. This way, they might not have to be.

Sidekick Slide back on T-Mobile

December 9, 2007

The Sidekick Slide was pulled off the T-Mo product line last month due to faulty battery contacts, which forced the phone to power off by itself when opened one too many times. The DIY fix was to stick some business cards or loose paper into the battery compartment to make sure the contacts never de-contact, but we’re sure Motorola has some fancier solutions (premium business cards, perhaps). In any case, you can buy one again for $199 after discounts and rebates. Gizmodo

The Porsche Kinderbob Bobsled

December 4, 2007

This winter your kids can totally ride around in (well, at least “on”) a Porsche. It’s the Porsche Kinderbob bobsled, and although I can’t tell you how fast it will go I can tell you it will look awesome flying down a hill of snow. It’s red and silver, and comes complete with the Porsche logo painted clearly on the side and a horn for letting those slower bobsledders know they need to get out of the way. And you the parent will have totally earned the right to say “Yeah, I bought little Timmy a Porsche for Christmas this year.” All for just $115.

I swear, if I had kids I’d cop one and say it’s for them…then use it to death.

Dell Launching iPhone Competitor?

December 3, 2007

In an already interesting article chronicling the last 10 months of the second coming of Michael Dell at his namesake, Forbes mentions two more interesting upcoming products: A suicide chip for stolen laptops that remotely nukes the hard drive, and a smartphone co-produced with Quanta that has “video, an MP3 player and Internet access and [will] be unleashed on the world early next year.”It’s a little off the initial release projection–nowish–but Forbes’ tidbit indicates the rumored project’s still alive and in the oven. Obviously, it remains mostly a blank slate of speculation–what’s the OS going to be? Still WinMo6 or will Dell mix it up? Will it have a touchscreen, QWERTY or both? The list goes on. One thing’s for sure, it’ll be a certifiable test of the new design chops Michael Dell’s been pushing so hard, which we hope are up to the task since there’s nothing worse than a poorly designed smartphone. What do you think should go into a Dell smartphone?Gizmodo

December 3, 2007

How cool is this? A company called Focus 21 France has created a flying yacht tender. The yacht has been designed as an airfoil that flies a few meters over the water for about 100km. The design is meant to provide one smooth ride above the water. It can be configured to hold 15 passengers, 12 passengers and luggage or in a VIP version that has a dining table and beds. All versions seem to have a bathroom.Luxist

Cadillac developing V12 Lexus LS and Merc S-Class rival

December 3, 2007

According to GM’s Bob Lutz, development work is ‘‘well under way’’ in Australia. The new V12 engine is essentially two GM 3.6L V6 engines mated together with a single crankshaft. Inside sources have revealed that the engine’s output will be roughly double that of a single V6, so expect to see around 523hp (390kW) and 680Nm (500lb-ft) of torque from its 7.2L of displacement. The new model will be targeted at cars like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Lexus LS range, and will include crash avoidance and safety technologies as well as direct injection and cylinder deactivation features.Autospies
